script

This is the script for our film opening, this has the speech that the characters say and the actions that follow them. This hopefully has comical references and flirtacious references for romance connotations. We created this to fit the kind of stereotypical characters you see in a Rom Com film to help achieve the climax moments that our primary target audience will look for.

Script

(On the phone, walking down street with JAY)

Lucy – Yes! (Frustrated)…Okay Mum! We’ll be with you in 5, see you soon…okay….bye! (Hangs up, puts phone in hand bag). Right we’ve got 5 minutes…

Jay – Oo, sounds good to me.. (Starts to push her into a bush)

(Lucy gives Jay a disgusted look) (Jay walks away sulking and Lucy follows)

(Bridget cooking in kitchen) (Shouts)

Bridget – Jonathan!! Stop Pacing around, come make yourself useful!!

(Jonathan walks in – Bridget clicks fingers and points)

Bridget – Vegetables! Now!

(Jonathan mutters and goes to vegetables) (Bridget gives a disgusted look)

(Lucy and Jay walking)

Lucy – You’re not nervous are you? (Rummaging in bag to find lipstick and mirror)

Jay – Pfftt! No, course not!

(Lucy putting on lipstick looking in mirror)

Lucy(laughing) As long as you know their names… (Jay looking shifty) You do know their names?

Bridget – No, it’s not James or Jack it’s Jay!

Jonathan – Jay?! That’s an initial, a letter – I refuse…I refuse to call him that!

(Bridget rolls her eyes and carries on cooking, puts on a smile)

Lucy – My dad’s Jonathan, my mum’s Bridget!

(Jay nicks lipstick off Lucy and writes on right hand BJ remember)

(Jonathan looking through keyhole at Lucy and Jay arriving)

Jonathan – BRIDGET! They’re here, they’re outside!!

(Bridget walks out of kitchen door and peers round to find Jonathan)

(Bridget slaps him over the head)

Lucy – You’ll be fine, just don’t embarrass yourself!

(Lucy and Jay stood face to face outside)

Jay – Alright….give me a kiss quick..

(Jonathan and Jay put hands out to shake)

Location

Although is a screenshot taken from google maps, this is our location where will be filming. It is in Tealby just down the road from the church where we will be doing our establishing shot. The nice countryside feel gives it a different type of style to the normal city type venues that Rom Com's are normall filmed in.

producers/directors/lighting/camera/sound

Arren - She is in charge of sound for our film opening, this means we can clearly hear what each character is saying. We have appointed her this job as she felt confident to do it and sound is an equally important job to our film opening. She has already had some practice doing sound with the traget audience interview clip we did, this means she is used to using it and will be comfortable recording the sound in our film opening.
Kim - Who is in the centre of this picture is in charge of working with the camera to film the opening. Out of our whole group Kim is the strongest person in using the camera she knows clearly what she is doing and has also had some practice with the camera when doing our target audinece interviewn clips and with the preliminary task we al recorded.
Jess - I am in charge of being the director, however through out most of the filming we will all be directors and say if we dont like a particular thing or not. I have been appointed this job to say the noticeable things that need to be changed or if any shots dont look quite right. The rest of the group will have their own inputs too, so as a group we will all decide together what looks best for our film opening.
Vicky - Vicky who is on the left of this picture is in charge of the lighting, this is not a necessity however since we will be filming later on in the day, the weather conditions could mean it gets dark too quickly. Pritchard feels confident to do the lighting as it was originally her idea to film our opening at the sort of evening time we are filming, the lighting will be crucial to our exteriro scenes so we can clearly see the characters and give the film a professional feel.

cast/characters

Jess Codd playing Lucy one of the key characters in the film. She is the stereotypical girly, pretty Rom Com female lead. Jess takes drama as an A level and took it as one of her chosen subjects for GCSE which she did very well in. This makes her the perfect female lead for our film as us as a group feel she can bring the best out of what we want and make it look good.
Gregory Reynolds is our male lead in our film, he plays Lucy's boyfriend Jay/Jamie. He plays a slightly clumsy, more comical character who clashes with Lucy's dad. Greg as a person is confident, witty and funny so we felt he would be perfect to play our male lead. He also has the right looks to appeal to a female audience which is essentially our primary target audience.
Tracy Eglon, Vicky Pritchard's mum, plays the character of Bridget who is Lucy's mum. She plays the polite, quiet character, who is slightly more in charge of her and Jonathan's relationship than Jonathan is. Bridget as a character is very similar to Tracy which is why we felt she would play the part well.
Matt Goodman, Vicky Pritchard's uncle, is playing Jonathan, Lucy's dad. He has the right kinda of looks for a dad figure, he plays the role of the arrogant dad who refuses to accept his little girl has got a boyfriend, he causes plenty of the comedy and trouble in the film.

The general feedback we got from our two ideas was positive, the fact that we were going through a different route and doing a Rom Com was quite popular. The ideas we came up with were:
Idea 1: the girl and boyfriend making there way to the girl's parents house, the girl firing question's which are comical and switching scenes to the girl's parents house where the parents are preparing to meet the new boyfriend.
Idea 2: the girl and new boyfriend are at the girl's parents house the girl picks up a glass of drink which flashes back and fades into her picking up a glass at a party and showing the scene of how her and her new boyfriend met.
We have chosen through our own preferences and what the class feedback said to go with idea 1. So now we can focus on how to make it extremely comical as well as having plenty of romance involved.

target audience screenshots and paragraphs

Page 18 shows me and my group that females have the highest percentage for watching films with 1,168 females watching films over the last three months, where as men watched 1,060 over the three months. out of these females the highest percentage for the age category of watching     these films were 45 - 54 year olds with 50%. The fact that there were more females watching films is perfect for our target audience as we are aiming our film at females.
After analysing the types of film on page 105 that the general public typically enjoy watching the graph shows us that our chosen genre romantic comedy is 7th highest on the information shown with 37%, this shows that our traget audience will be appealed to our romantic comedy genre film opening.
Analysing the graph on page 106 our chosen genre romantic comedy typically appeals to more females than males with the overiding percentage of 61% under 35 and 47% over 35. This means ou primary target audience will be females uner the age of 35 and our secondary target audience will be for females over 35.

Overlooking the graph on page 116 the percentage rating for romantic comedy who pick this genre as their favourite is 14% (8th from the top). Although this may seem quite low, half of our genre which is comedy is the highest rated favourite for a genre with 31%. This gives a specific idea of what will appeal more to an audience.

Looking at the final graph on page 117 about the types of film the general public consider their favourites with a full breakdown of demogrpahics which is, age, gender, occupation and social class. Our chosen film opening genre Romantic Comedy is more favouritised by females who are under 35, who are parents and are in the A or B social class category.
Looking at some of the statistics on the numbers website there are some Romantic Comedy films mentioned as top rated etc. however there is also a lot of over riding comedy genre films.

Specifically in this second screenshot there are several Rom Com genre films mentioned as top rated, this gives more enthusiasm for our opening film as to what kind of thing our target audience will enjoy.
